English (ENG4U)

The aim of this course is to consolidate the literacy, communication, creativity and critical-thinking skills necessary for success in academic and daily life.  Students will analyze a range of challenging literary texts.  Students will encounter texts from a range of periods, countries and cultures and will evaluate a wide variety of written and visual texts and media messages.  Students will select appropriate reading strategies for specific texts and will critically evaluate the purpose, message and audience of various written, spoken and visual texts.  The expectations for ENG4U are that students will produce clear, precise and thoughtful academic writing.  The course is intended to prepare students for entry into post-secondary studies and the workplace.
